about this project
launch the site
A complete redesign and front-end rebuild of the Warner Classics & Jazz website, this project is scheduled to launch for late June (the link currently brings you to a development server). The existing site had been built by us several years ago, the data having been meticulously collated and collected into a CMS that the client opted to keep using. The main aim of this project is to incorporate Warner’s Classical, Jazz and World music catalogues into one website in an elegant and logical way as part of a global re-brand for this division of Warner Music Group. In order to keep a strong yet flexible sense of structure I applied a 16 column grid to the main content area between header and footer. I created 3 basic page templates to accommodate all of the different states: 4 by 12 for individual sections, 8 by 8 for shared sections and 4 by 6 by 6 for the home page. The color-based distinction was born out of their new branding as was the rounded, bubbly styling throughout.

about this project
launch the site
An entire site from scratch for the Romanian opera diva Angela Gheorghiu – a large scale project to be launched mid-June (the link currently brings you to a development server). This is the first project I've designed around the Django framework which presented new challenges and afforded me an opportunity to work with a talented developer who has even helped improve my css fluency. It was designed to look elegant, bring useful content forward and to be as uncluttered as possible at all times. Part of this was laying out each page so that as much of the content as possible would be visible within a pc browser at 1024 by 768 resolution. One of the more subtle and interesting micro challenges was to get the cd and dvd tracklisting to render dynamically in a neat, cross-platform two column layout using django templates, minimal xhtml markup and css.

about this project
launch the site
Seasonal projects always involve the quickest turnaround. This site was briefed, designed, built, tested and launched in 5 days. As with all projects of this nature the key was to keep it simple. The design echoes a brochure or magazine styling and layout throughout using the album artwork as a basis. The idea was to give the content and the user room to breath and move around; to evoke a stately and luxurious feeling.

about this project
launch the site
Another classical label website – this time the return of a 75 year old French imprint. Using their sparse, elegant white covers as a starting point I tried to introduce some modernity while keeping the style intact. I made their distinctive logo a repeating feature throughout in several different sizes. In retrospect using a serif typeface for the body copy instead of Helvetica would have improved the legibility considerably. Live and learn.
HTML Emails Ingrid Fliter – Chopin
about this project
launch the email
Because many people use email clients that are quite limited in terms of rendering capability, the process of creating html emails requires strict and outmoded methods that do not allow for most of our modern css trickery. Many web designers bemoan these limitations but I see it as an opportunity to focus more heavily on fundamental design principles – particularly typography – as these are essentially formatted emails without any functionality. I try to make them as clear, lightweight and attractive as possible.
